Russell students go on a virtual field trip

RUSSELL Seventy-three 8-year-olds participated in a virtual field trip to visit the Mayflower, Plymouth Rock and the Plymouth Colony. Each class connected using a Zoom meeting and equipment purchased with a grant from Kentucky Power.

The virtual tour guide took the students through geography maps of what the landscape looked like to the passengers of the Mayflower, what the ship might have looked like and how the passengers lived on it.

The virtual tour guide was able to not only teach the students about this topic, but allowed for lots of interaction.  Dylan McNurlin and Savannah Miles (both from Mrs. Amber Conley’s class) said the field trip was “super fun!” They really enjoyed getting to see the inside of the ship, but McNurlin made it very clear that it was “very hard times. I’m glad I don’t have to live like that.”
