It is with great pride that we welcome you to the Russell High School webpage. RHS is a suburban high school (grades 9 - 12) of approximately 650 students. We provide opportunities for high student achievement and wide varieties of extra-curricular activities, all in a safe and caring community. Russell High School offers a broad curriculum that includes Advanced Placement, dual-credit, and technical school courses that prepare our students for success beyond high school in post secondary education or in the workforce. Our graduates go on to great success in many chosen career paths and credit RHS with giving them the opportunities to explore and prepare them for their future goals. Russell Red Devils' Fall Sports
Russell Independent Schools is extremely proud of the part that sports has played in the rich tradition of our district. From our two State Championships in football to our State Records held in Track, we have much to celebrate regarding our sports programs. Our Athletic Director maintains updates utilizing Twitter@Russellsports for all of the RHS contests; schedules (game times, bus departures, cancellations, etc.) are made available through Schedule Star, and a separate website, www.reddevilsports.com, is maintained to keep our school community informed about our Russell Red Devils! We offer the following varsity interscholastic sports for Fall: Football (boys), Volleyball (girls), Cross Country (boys and girls), Golf (boys and girls), Soccer (boys and girls) and Cheerleading.  KHSAA Form   << Close

History of Russell Independent Schools

The Russell School System is the oldest school system in Greenup County. In 1870, Miss Alice Carner realized that there was a need for a school and opened a private school in Russell, KY. Originally, the teaching took place in a recreation house which stood in Carner's Grove, but in 1874, a school building was erected near the junction of Kenwood Drive and Route 23. In July of 1891, voters of Russell laid the foundation work for the present school system.   Read more...   << Close

 

Journalism @ Russell High School

Russell High School, in participation with The University of Tennessee, is part of the launch of the Interscholastic Online News Network (ISONN). The purpose of this launch was to help establish news websites in high schools and thus improve the teaching of scholastic journalism. This website utilizes digital media from our Journalism class to report school news.  << Close
